Baked sweet potato from yesterday topped with a chipotle black bean burger, @traderjoes cashew fiesta dip, and a piece of baked lemon pepper cod for my pre workout meal. Can you say fiber?!

My workout isn’t for a few more hours but I like to have a bigger meal several hours before training and then a small snack again right before. This makes sure that my food is completely digested before I try to squat with a food baby💁🏼‍♀️It’s just what works for me, everyone’s peri workout nutrition may be different!

I freaking LOVE THIS SAYING! I don’t know about you, but I would much rather have prime 1-2 day shipping than the post office or UPS getting me what I need in a much slower time frame. Especially if you’re lifting, your body wants the fast/easy digesting glucose molecules to fuel your muscles to power through your workout — much more than having to go through another metabolic pathway such a gluconeogenesis to break down fat or protein into glucose

Before starting my bachelors in nutrition & dietetics, I yo-yo dieted for most of my life since... probably late middle school (it kills me to admit this)

I tried meal replacement shakes, fasting, juicing, lemon water ‘detoxes’ & the list goes on. In addition, I thought working out was a form of punishment for eating ‘bad’ and I dreaded any type of exercise
..
I always HATED the way I looked and wanted to be skinny like the girls at my school. Why couldn’t I be naturally thin like them? What made me feel so big?
..
I look back at pictures and I’m mortified because guess what?
‼️I WAS PERFECT JUST THE WAY I WAS!‼️But something inside told me I needed to be smaller
..
Lifting and the gym (along with my nutrition degree) 100% saved me from this terrible way of thinking - about food AND the way I looked, but also changed how I FELT inside
..
I am now 26 and feel the BEST I ever have, inside and out. I want to be STRONG & CONFIDENT, not skinny like my high school self told me I needed to be. I can’t get those years of ‘needing’ to be thin back, but my mindset for the past 2 years is in a positive place and never going back
..
I go into the gym and get excited when I do more weight than my last session. That’s my me time, my self care. I no longer feel guilt when I eat a pop tart or ice cream or pizza or Olive Garden😋This lifestyle - it lights a fire to KEEP ME GOING

I’m so thankful I beat my old mindset that made me feel like I had to do an extreme diet to achieve the body I wanted.‼️I now have the body I want, 👉🏻a strong and healthy one❤️

Gaining knowledge about nutrition saved me from my restrict/binge/diet cycle and gave me freedom. It taught me how to recognize science based info and not to believe the skinny girl who sells fit tea

✳️That being said, be skeptical what you read online, it could damage your mindset and the way you view yourself more than you think. I see such bad nutrition/fitness info every time I scroll this app and it’s painful!

‼️Salmon is seasoned with garlic season all, cilantro and pepper and ended up cooking it for 8 minutes on 400 degrees. Super simple!😋

As are most of my meals, a balance of protein, carbs, and fat especially at my last big meal for the day. I try to always prioritize all macros as well as micronutrients for fiber and satiety purposes because who wants to go to bed hungry?! Not me🙋🏼‍♀️

Pretty cool read although research still needs further evaluated! Regardless, omega-3’s have many benefits from protective to anti-inflammatory properties. More reason to eat up🍱

If you haven’t eaten a balanced meal within 2-3 hours of training, definitely grab something before hitting the gym! A good combination of carbs, protein, and some fat (although some people prefer little to not fat directly before training) is adequate for most

The amounts of macros all depend on your goals. Obviously if you’re prepping for a bodybuilding competition your food is going to look slightly different pre-gym but for the average hobby/lifestyle lifter, a good variety of moderate carb, protein, and fat will be beneficial to give you energy during your workout
..
Post workout for me is always higher protein and again, moderate carbohydrate, and lower on fat. This ensures that amino acids (the building blocks of protein) are replenished to repair the muscle fibers that were broken down during a workout
..
Studies have shown that the post-workout timing of 30 minutes to get your protein in is in fact, a myth. As long as your total protein for the day is adequate, your muscles should have no problem repairing themselves! So don’t stress yourself to get your protein in directly after if it’s not possible
..

Was running low on several things and am in much need of a meal prep date soooo I decided to run into @aldiusa and pick up some things

Let’s just say I was very surprised at the selection, quality of fruits & vegetables, and of course their prices. All this cost me $60! {I was aiming to keep it under $80 and I surprised myself} Typically would spend around $100-120 for the week other places
..
I noticed many products were of the Fit&Active brand and tended to be more macro friendly than the other brands available
..
Meal prep going down later today so here’s what I’m planning so far👇🏻👇🏻
✅Turkey meatballs
✅Chicken stir fry (I picked up a stir fry kit with all the veggies & everything I needed except the chicken!)
✅Taco beef bowl with broccoli and sweet potatoes
✅Grilled garlic shrimp with basmati rice and cauliflower wings 😋
..
These meals will get me through this week and hopefully be gone before I have to MOVE NEXT WEEK😁😭

I’m not perfect everyday. I don’t always hit my macros perfectly or get all my workouts in each week. But what I am doing perfectly is keeping consistent and disciplined
..
If I miss a workout, I try again the next day. I overshoot my macros sometimes🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t stress and under eat the next day to punish myself but get back to my normal the very next meal. I enjoy pizza some nights and enjoy every second of it {check my stories😋}

✅STAY PATIENT!! ❤️❤️❤️

I absolutely love tea and coffee equally as well as the occasional energy drink no lie, but in each one the caffeine hits me differently

SIDE NOTE: first things first - get a full nights rest, every night! Caffeine is only going to mask the tiredness for a while until you reach for another cup
..
I reach for green tea many mornings when I’m not feeling coffee or during the summer when this Oklahoma humidity hits😰

I used to hate tea without added sugar, probably because growing up we mostly drank sweet tea - so switching over to unsweetened can sometimes be a struggle for some, especially here in the Midwest. When I found green tea a few year ago, I fell in love! The smell, flavor, the way it makes me feel, all of it!
..
Some things to think about if you’re wanting to reduce the amount of sugar in beverages like tea and coffee - 1️⃣. start slow by decreasing the amount you add. Maybe cut back on half at first and reduce from there - 2️⃣. If you’re struggling with #1, take that half and add a sugar substitute like @sweetleafstevia but remember, don’t rely on those sugar substitutes in everything as they can sometimes cause GI upset in some. They can be a short term tool to make long term changes but should not be overused😁

I reach for green tea many mornings when I’m not feeling coffee or during the summer when this Oklahoma humidity hits😰 .. I used to hate tea without added sugar, probably because growing up we mostly drank sweet tea - so switching over to unsweetened can sometimes be a struggle for some, especially here in the Midwest. When I found green tea a few year ago, I fell in love! The smell, flavor, the way it makes me feel, all of it! .. Some things to think about if you’re wanting to reduce the amount of sugar in beverages like tea and coffee - 1️⃣. start slow by decreasing the amount you add. Maybe cut back on half at first and reduce from there - 2️⃣. If you’re struggling with  #1, take that half and add a sugar substitute like @sweetleafstevia but remember, don’t rely on those sugar substitutes in everything as they can sometimes cause GI upset in some. They can be a short term tool to make long term changes but should not be overused😁 .. Sure there are some carbs that are more beneficial than others. For example; eating a sweet potato is not the same as eating a piece of cake BUT both of these foods have a place in the diet for various reasons whether it be for nutrients or mental/emotional satisfaction

‼️I could go on and on about the importance of a balanced diet and the benefits of including all three macronutrients •{protein, carbs, and fat}• into a daily diet but I’ll leave it at this: eliminating an entire food group from your diet can lead to restrictive eating habits and a potential binge later down the road on top of missing out on beneficial nutrition. So be sure to include all 3 macros AS WELL AS micronutrients like fruits🍑🥭 & veggies 🥦🥬into all meals!

I did NOT wanna workout today. Been dragging all day and was sooo bloated! Read a quote from @christianguzmanfitness the other day that said something along the lines of; motivation can come and go but that’s where discipline comes in to play and takes over...& that hit me

I have big goals in the coming year so being lazy is not an option. If I want to get myself on that competition stage in 2020😁{which gives me chills just thinking about}, I have to suck it up and do the work EVERYDAY! Funny thing is when I got to the gym and started my workout I FELT SO. MUCH. BETTER! It always seems to happen like that, getting there is sometimes the hardest part. I love pushing myself and I love this lifestyle. Some days I just have to remind myself why I do it❤️
