One of my favorite things to do to create multi-dimensional hair is alternate my application techniques! If I balayage a guest one time, and they want a touch up only a few months later....a lot of times I will still balayage through the back and sides but then do teasylights through the top rather than paint again! This helps me have more control over where my lightener is going so I don’t have to worry about overlapping (since the regrowth is such a small area) as well as help me keep everything nice and bright. Do you like labeled breakdowns like this? Let me know!!

Love transformation days! Adriana here just wanted a good chop to help bear the July heat and to be brightened up a little, so that’s just what we did! I started by taking off about 4-5 inches or so by point cutting on her dry hair to make sure it was nice and soft. Then I painted her and put her under LOW heat for about 25 mins. She has no permanent color or anything on her hair at all so it lifted like a dream 🌟!!
.
I clarified her hair to remove any buildup and leftover lightener, then applied the new Triple Power Mask from @matrix to kick out some unwanted tones and pack in that moisture. After rinsing that out, glossing, and drying I finished texturing her hair ✂️ and then styled her out and applied some texture spray. Voila! Summer ready!! 🏝 .

I feel like this image is a really good representation of what a first session of paint looks like. So many times we will post a picture and talk about how many sessions it took, and I think it’s so important to do that because if we don’t, then a lot of times our guests will just see the image and think “ooh! Yes that’s what I want” without being prepared for the journey ahead. They will want that instant gratification. But I also think it’s important to post sessions 1 or 2, also, so there is a scale we can use to show what to expect! I love this sweet gals hair, and she actually loves keeping it soft and natural looking like this (lucky me) so this is where we stay. But for those of you out there with thick, brunette hair wanting to go blonde with balayage, this would probably be what to expect with session number one. In order to achieve more brightness, it is imperative that you understand that it will take more than one session, and/or foil work...which generally costs more and takes more time. (And even with foil work, it can take sessions.) in the meantime, though, your locks will be so gorgeous and most importantly, healthy! Trust your stylist, and enjoy the journey ❤️

🎨 Painting Tip: Pay attention to the texture of the hair before you mix your lightener. If it’s on the fine side, mix your lightener a little on the thicker side so it doesn’t seep through, and create unwanted spots! If the hair is courser, mix your lightener a little thinner so it will glide better and fill in the little grooves on the course hair strands a little better. This will create a far more even lift! Know anyone who could use this tip? Tag them below! 👇🏻👇🏻

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. So stop hating yourself for everything you’re not, and start loving yourself for everything you already are. ❤️

Kenna hadn’t been painted in months! The grow out was still beautiful and soft, but it was definitely time to bring up some brightness. I painted ribbons through the top while leaving out her previously lightened ends and popped in some foils right up front for more control, making sure I didn’t overlap on her previous bright pieces around her face. Gave her a good trim, and she’s ready to conquer the world 💪🏻 .

Fun fact:
.
.

My favorite way to curl my own hair is to curl it with a flat iron 💁🏻‍♀️
.

On others, I prefer using a 1 1/4 inch iron because I love the roundness/shape a little better. But on my own hair, there’s just nothing that compares to a flat iron curl! It’s quick and easy, but most importantly it will hold the curl for DAYS. .
.

First, I always make sure I’m using a heat protectant, which I applied prior to this vid.
.

I take small sections and curl them AWAY from my face, all over the head, making sure the iron opening is pointed DOWN. I don’t like to alternate sections because, even though I love the beach-y look, the curl doesn’t last as long when the directions are fighting against each other, and this girl hates doing her hair more than once a week 😬
.
.

When I get to the top section, I smooth the little squirly pieces around my face, (and sometimes some frizzies through my part,) then curl away from my face. After I’m all done, I let my curls set until they cool, then I brush through them (usually with a wet brush) to relax them a little, and then finish off with a texture spray. My favorite is AG tousled texture. I like that one the best because the finish gives a lot of shine along with some awesome beachy-ness. Is that a word? It is now!!
.
. **important side note....as with any hot tool, I recommend using one with a heat control setting so you are able to turn the heat down as much as you can. No need to cook your hair at 450 degrees 😳 I would also recommend first trying this with the heat turned OFF so you can nail the wrist motion and direction. I’ve seen people try to do this many times and end up holding the heat in their hair for too long as they try to figure out what to do and it can really damage the hair.
.
.

Hope this helps! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions, and don’t forget to tag a bestie ❤️
