No carving, I've been decorating.
Pendant shards of pale pink Indian soapstone with aluminium leaf (like silver but doesn't need cleaning) detailing. Green soapstone leaf with 24ct gold detailing. Hang on a silver chain or on a length of leather or waxed cotton.
The column is a long way from finished but I couldn't resist having a first look at how this birdbath is doing. It's a big piece and I was worried I had outfaced myself for a while but it's well on the way now. Note the central atoll insisted on by the client - so the little birds can swim too! #birdbath #ancaster #limestone #gardenart #sculpture #hardgraft
Variety being the spice of life and all that, I've just carved a little life-affirming spiral in this bit of Cumbrian slate.
Reminds me of the mountain in 'Close Encounters' or at least the mashed potato version of it. Progress (I've chopped off so much I can actually lift it unaided now). Stopping now to do something different as the vibrations and heat are getting to me. Hooray for the airtools (sorry @samebenn !) #birdbath #ancaster #limestone #gardenart #workinprogress #sculpture
I do like a bit of ropework. I was trained in a very old-fashioned sailing school and knowledge of splicing, whipping and other bits of fiddly ropework were expected. All going a bit out of fashion. These are backsplices in a bit of rope to be used as a curtain tieback.
