I wanted to share a tip this morning about a commonly asked question that I get. As a recipe developer and part-time food blogger, I frequently spend days in the kitchen making upwards of five or six recipes 👌🏻 And as much as I absolutely love to do this, I can sometimes end the day with a huge stomachache. I used to find myself skipping meals on recipe development days because I didn’t want to over eat or feel weighed down by the insane varieties of food I was having that day. Something I have learned that has really worked for me is to do the exact opposite of that 😋 Eating full, balanced meals on the recipe days or on days that you are spending around the kitchen or just at home, will actually help your body so much more. When I eat these balanced meals I feel full and satisfied and I don’t feel the urge to eat the entirety of whatever it is I baked that day. When I restrict myself in order to just eat these baked goods, I I end up way hungrier than I should be and in the end I end up eating way more than I would have had I just eaten the meals in the first place. Bottom line, restricting in order to “save room” for later or “save up” those calories is only going to cause your body more stress than it’s worth. Try as hard as you can to listen to your body and eat when it’s craving a meal or a snack because your body knows more than your mind tends to believe 🤗 • On a less serious note, let’s discuss #whatsinmybowl ! Today I am spending the majority of the day in the kitchen, so just like I said, I am starting the day with a huge filling breakfast. I made a delicious smoothie paired with yogurt. I topped it with some of my homemade granola that I posted the other day along with some fresh fruits, coconut flakes, bee pollen, and a huge swirl of almond butter. Not really a new recipe, but it’s a green frosted @soozysgrainfree muffin and I’m all about it 😍 The exact recipe for this green frosting is coming soon so definitely stay tuned for that. I am spending the morning out with my best friend and I’m excited for this chill and easy morning. Most weekends I find myself doing a lot of work for my blog and social media. And I can’t say enough how much joy it brings me, but sometimes it’s nice to step out of the house and spend the morning with a friend eating good food and catching up. I tend to forget how important these breaks are because I love so much the things that I do. But I really can’t stress enough how much the breaks are needed. I wrote a whole blog post recently about ways to take a day off and take some time for self-care and self-love, so I’m trying to practice one of my own tips and doing something relaxing and also fun which means hanging out with a friend and eating brunch. I just wanted to share this photo today because it really does put a smile to my face. I love taking food photos and coming up with new ways to make healthy eating beautiful. I found myself feeling grateful this morning for this life that I have created for myself in which I get to do something I genuinely love and learning about the things that truly make me the happiest. I FINALLY did it! I made my own crunchy as heck granola ✨ If you’ve been following me for a while now, you may have noticed that something I can literally never figure out how to make is granola. I am obsessed with having a variety of textures in everything that I eat, so in the morning when I’m having a yogurt bowl or a smoothie bowl or even a bowl of oatmeal, I love to add crunchy toppings... especially granola. I have a few brands that I always come back to because they are just that good, but sometimes it’s nice to be able just to make your when you don’t want to spend extra money 👌🏻 this granola is a cinnamon raisin flavor and it’s seriously amazing. It is gluten-free, dairy free, and refined sugar free. I’m honestly just so impressed that it stayed together in large clusters and the crunch factor is to die for. It’s finally up! I have been working on a self-care and self love blog post for so long and I am so happy that I finally had a little extra time to work on it so I can share it with you 🤗 I think this blog post is unique because it’s coming from a perspective of a girl who has three jobs and likes to be the most productive person in the world. I can talk about the importance of self-care for hours, but I don’t always implement these tips into my own lifestyle. If you’ve been following me for any period of time, it’s pretty obvious how much I love breakfast and all things breakfast food. I love coming up with new ways to fill my belly in the morning and start the day off right 🌞 As much as I wish this was my breakfast today, it’s definitely not, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still drool over it. A little while back for a giveaway I made these cacao coconut pancakes and they were incredible. I loaded up the stack with frozen berries, goji berries, granola, and drizzle of granola butter. I am back at work today from my sick day yesterday 🤗 I probably could’ve used another day off, but sometimes you just have to get back on your feet and back into the rhythm of things. This is sadly not my breakfast from today, but it is from yesterday! Whenever I am sick or at home I love having a big bowl of warm oatmeal that I make on the stove. It’s one of the easiest things to make and it always warms me up from the inside out 😍 For this bowl I just made a cinnamon apple oatmeal sweetened with a little applesauce and I topped it with cinnamon roasted apple chunks. The whole breakfast took me less than five minutes to make and it was just perfect. I topped it off with a little bee pollen, cacao nibs, and a drizzle of honey 🍯 i’m obviously not gonna say that this breakfast cured my sickness, but it definitely made me feel so much better in the moment knowing that I was comforted with my big bowl of oats. But looking through old photos I discovered these and immediately you started craving these fluffy orange muffins. One of the hardest things about creating new recipes is that I am constantly left with leftover ingredients or recipe fails that I hate wasting. Whenever I mess up a recipe, I’m left with the decision of either throwing away the fail or trying my best to save it 🤞🏼 I HATE wasting food because I know there are so many people that would love that food regardless. I also hate wasting money and when I throw away food, I feel like I’m just throwing away money you know? So my biggest tip, if you love to bake or recipe develop or maybe want to start your own food blog, come up with creative ways to save the leftovers and the mistakes. For example 👆🏼 I melt chocolate for a lot of my recipes, and when I don’t use all of it, I’ll spread the leftover on a sheet of parchment paper and toss on some fun ingredients to make chocolate bark. For this one I added chopped cashews, bee pollen, goji berries, and a pinch of sea salt. When you need something green for St Patrick’s day, you got have to post a throwback! And trust me, this recipe is worth a throw back 😏 I made these little coconut butter filled cups a few weeks ago and they were one of my favorite recipes that I have ever made. They are literally one of the easiest things to make and they turn out perfectly every time. For the shell of these cups I used melted @hukitchen chocolate and I filled them with coconut butter and matcha. There are only 4 INGREDIENTS ✨ in this recipe so it’s definitely worth your time. It’s the freaking weekend y’all, we made it 🤗 If you missed it in my stories, I am in Savannah celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a bunch of my friends. Since I am not home, I wanted to do a little throwback today to these amazing muffin cups I made a while back. I used the amazing @soozysgrainfree muffins as the base for the cups. I just chopped off the muffin top (which I definitely ate as a snack) and then scooped out the insides of the bottoms. I filled each little cup with a few spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt and topped them with crunchy granola, some fresh fruit, and a drizzle of creamy almond butter 😍 These little cups are perfect as a midday snack or as a cute dessert to serve to your friends. These are gluten-free, dairy free, and refined sugar free which is always a plus. I am spending the day off my phone to be with my friends so I will catch up with you guys when I get back. Thank goodness for Friday 🤗 I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and I can’t shake it. And I’m sharing this with you guys because sometimes it’s ok to not be ok. I feel self conscious today and irritable for really no reason and I was mad that I felt this way. Being mad about it was obviously making it worse so I’m working on being ok with it. I’m working on acknowledging that I’m human and I’m allowed to have bad days or weeks or even just whole periods in your life. You know what happens when one of your favorite brands comes out with a brownie mix? This 👆🏼 As soon as @simplemills released their brownie mix I got my hands on a box and I’m officially addicted. These brownies are so moist and thick, and if no one told you they were gluten free, you’d literally never know. And because I’m a Simple Mills fanatic, I topped the brownies with their cookie mix to make the best dessert I’ve ever made. I topped each one with a drizzle of @loving_earth chocolate for extra chocolatey goodness. These literally lasted less than two days at my house and I was so sad when they were gone 😭 But it’s so easy to make so I’ll get over it right? Since it’s their recipe, I just added a few tips below! Happy baking sweet friends • ~ Mix the brownie mix as instructed on the box and pour it into a lined brownie dish! ~ Bake them for about 17 minutes ~ While they’re baking, make the cookie mix to have it ready ~ At the 17 minute mark, take the brownies out, and crumble the cookie dough on top. I pressed it down slightly, but too much since the brownies were still not done ~ Bake for about 30-40 more minutes. Good morning friends! I’m here with another new recipe and this time they are ✨ protein cookie bombs ✨ I’ve been feeling so inspired in the kitchen lately and it makes me so happy to share new recipes with you guys. I love giving tasty options to people that can’t eat gluten or dairy or soy or whatever it is 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know eating tasty desserts and good food was something I struggled with when I first started a more restrictive diet to help heal my gut. Tip of the day: when you travel, always pack snacks. I don’t know about you guys, but if I’m hungry and there’s no food around, I can become the worst version of myself 😬 A version of myself that I don’t even want to be around. So rather than submitting other people to that, I bring snacks to keep myself full and satisfied. • I used to feel so ashamed when I would pull out one of my own little packed snacks. I would get weird looks from people when I pulled out a Ziploc bag of carrots or a pre-made muffin like this one. People always asked why I didn’t buy the food that the vendors offered. There are so many answers to that question which is why I’m no longer ashamed to be that person. You know what’s worth it? YOU ARE You deserve a rest day You deserve dessert You deserve to treat yourself You deserve to smile and you don’t have to earn that. You shouldn’t feel like you have to work in order to give your body what it wants and needs 🤗 • I can’t tell you guys how many times I didn’t do something because I thought I didn’t deserve it or I wasn’t worth it. I didn’t want to go out to eat because I hadn’t worked hard enough at the gym or I didn’t want to go shopping because what did I do to deserve a new pair of shoes? Well that’s just not right is it? We do so much in our lives that we don’t even acknowledge the importance of. It shouldn’t take some huge event or big thing to make us feel like we DESERVE a treat or a rest or some self care. I’m truly working on this aspect of self love right now. And for me that means getting my nails done once a month 😍 Sure, it’s some money I could be saving, but I always leave the salon feeling new and refreshed and that’s a feeling worth any price tag • For those interested, I’ve been going to @lesmains_nailbar in Atlanta for almost a year now and I don’t think I could go anywhere else.
