Weekend plans 🙌🏽 #Repost @spinesvines Happy New Year! 🍾🥂🎊 As we enter a new year, let’s us reflect on all that we’ve journeyed through in 2018; celebrating triumphs and pushing through disappointments. We are resilient and I can’t think of a better book to kick off the new year — WELL-READ BLACK GIRL by @guidetoglo Do not let the title of the book deter you from picking up this wonderful anthology. As @sixminutesforme stated so eloquently “this was a phenomenal essay collection - the range of voices included a complex discussion about the importance of representation in literature. The collection was also a celebration of the talent and legacy of black women writers, and the passion within each essay really brought this collection to life.” I’m continuing my commitment to highlight #diversespines written by women of color each month and I hope you’ll read along. Let’s keep shining the light on women of color writers who are impacting the literary community in a profound way. If you’re reading along use the hashtag & also use it so I can see what other diverse spines you’re reading! 📚🍷 . . . . . #spinesvines #books #wine#wellreadblackgirl #wrbg #wocwriters#newyear #newbooks #newyou#happynewyear
“Never be limited by other people’s limited imaginations.” —Dr. Mae Jemison, first African-American female astronaut Happy Black History Month!! I personally celebrate our accomplishments & history all year, all the time but this month is specifically dedicated to celebrating and bringing awareness to the many contributions Black Americans have made throughout history. My focus for February is to read black women that I haven’t read and I ask that you challenge yourself to read some black literature! Have a great weekend, stay warm (if you’re in a place that’s freezing) and I can't wait to see what you're reading this month! Let's do this February! 💪🏽 THE COLOR PURPLE by Alice Walker is the #diversespines spine of the month. I'm super excited to be collaborating with @diverseclassics this month. SHE WOULD BE KING by Wayetu Moore (@wayetu) is our @litonhst February bookclub selection. @lupita.reads and I are looking forward to chatting with our #LitonHSt family. THE WARMTH OF OTHER SUNS by Isabel Wilkerson is my #bookstagrambuddy read with @kate.olson.reads. Nearly 100 of you have joined the group on goodresds and we so ready to discuss this epic book! Happy Black History Month! I’m celebrating by centering and elevating the work of Black women and non-binary writers in my reading this month, and also by happily loaning out any of these books, or others by WOC in my collection (there’s.....a lot more🤭) to any friends who ask. I am so grateful to Alice Walker, Angela Y. Davis, Gayl Jones, Michelle Alexander, Assata Shakur, the world’s most dog-eared copy of Audre Lorde’s Collected Poems that legit got me thru some tough nights, and to the extraordinary poet and friend of @novellanyc, Yrsa Daley-Ward (not pictured: that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie book I loaned out and never got back, you know who you are! 🧐). And of course, Toni Morrison is a category unto herself! So grateful to these writers for the words that shaped me, taught me, and enriched my vision of the world, myself, and others. And I’m proud to be a part of @novellanyc, where we celebrate women and non-binary writers, and especially writers of color, every day. HMU if you need a good read this month! 🗣
Hello, Leeann @borninflames here! The beginning of Black History Month is a great reason to elevate and celebrate the work of Black women and non-binary writers.📚 Here’s just a few of our favorites, from Alice Walker, Angela Davis, Gayl Jones, Michelle Alexander, Assata Shakur, the world’s most dog-eared copy of Audre Lorde’s Collected Poems, and friend of Novella, Yrsa Daley-Ward (not pictured: that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie book we loaned out and never got back 🤔). And of course, Toni Morrison is a category unto herself! These are the words that shaped us, empowered us, and enriched our vision of the world and ourselves. Here at Novella, it’s our mission to empower and connect women and non-binary writers, and especially writers of color, every day. So stay tuned all February for more stories from us about our favorite WOC writers, and tell us — how are you celebrating Black History Month as a reader, writer, or creator?
