In honor of her wedding tomorrow, I introduce you all to my cousin @saraschwingel 😁 She has been in the midst of planning her wedding (in less than a year), and still has made the time to check in on me, encourage me, and love me through one of the hardest transitions of my life so far. All from 3,000 miles away! And I fully expect this wedding to be pulled off with military precision (you haven’t seen the Excel sheets 😉). To say she is a rockstar would be an understatement 🤟🏼 . Who inspires you to do more than you think you are capable of? Tell me all about them below, and leave Sara some solid marriage advice for her new adventure with @erb.james 💕💕

When was the last time you flat out asked for what you wanted? . I met Kat at a @damescollective.oc networking event months ago. I reached out on Instagram and took a chance that they didn’t have a photographer for an early morning Friday talk (they didn’t). Kat was one of the ladies in the audience, and she was so very sweet to me - she was the first attendee to use my complimentary headshots on social media after the event. . Taking the advice of all of my online mentors, I thought of Kat when I was formulating what kind of branding work I wanted to show in my portfolio. “Show the kind of work you want to be shooting” had been playing on replay in my head for months. I reached out to her, and lo and behold, she was right in the middle of a website rebrand herself and needed new photos! . Looking at this photo reminds me, on a deep level, that anything I want is potentially a question away. I know the fear – but I am here to prove that I didn’t die from taking a chance and asking a question (REAL TALK: there are plenty of unanswered messages and cordial no thank you’s out there too). . Is there something you want/need to do that you can take action on right now? Tell me below and trust that I will keep you ACCOUNTABLE! Action is what moves you forward, in whatever area of life you are thinking of right now!
Were you an introvert or an extrovert as a child? When I was a little girl, I was definitely the kid hiding behind my mom’s leg (or at least holding hands) when the adults were talking. I loved reading, and frequently brought books with me to parties, just in case there were no kids my age there (which was frequently the case). I know – I was a really cool kid 😎 . Now, it still takes me a second to be social at parties, but I can host a dinner party with the best of ‘em. . Have you changed since your early years, or do old habits die hard?
Someone recently asked: Why do you own a branding photography business? Well, I can tell you, it’s uncharted territory, and scary at times! . I pursue entrepreneurship because of the creativity I get to lean on every day, and my mission to truly change the life of at least one business owner - and have her realize how much power, drive, and showing up can give her the life she wants. . Why do you own your own business? Holler at me in the comments!
There are some things that people LOVE on Instagram, like sarcastic memes or animal videos, but one thing YOU guys love are my tutorials! . Today, I’m teaching you how to take better photos of your products with your iPhone, using these beautiful natural bath salts from @magicskinnutrients! . First, look for shaded areas outside to get even lighting around your product. Then, invest in 4 white foam core boards from Hobby Lobby or Target to create a light box and clean background for your products. Finally, look for props/plants/textured pieces to add interest and more to the story of your products. Did this help? Watch my stories for a more in depth look into my process, and let me know what you’ll do with these tips in the comments below!
When you know, you know, am I right? Some business owners have been on the entrepreneurial path since birth…I’m new to this thrilling/sometimes terrifying adventure. . I’m a brand photographer and I love it, and I’ve been running Katherine Schwingel Photography for almost one year. I knew, without question, that I had to pursue this whole-heartedly when I wasn’t fulfilled in my office job (and it showed), and I had no excuses left to put off pursuing my dreams. . Writing that makes me cringe, but I know there are many of you out there who need to hear that everything can feel wrong and out of line with who you are, and you can still rise to unimaginable places - with a lot of hard work and time. When did you know you were on the right path?
Truth or Lie: I am completely confident at all times, in every aspect of my business! . Of course, we all doubt ourselves sometimes. My struggle usually rears its head around networking events and when it does, I repeat to myself that it takes only one other person to make a connection. You better believe I’ll be saying that walking into the @insporising event Thursday night at @thelostbean in Costa Mesa – are you going?! Tickets are still available, so grab one and come say hi if you see me! . When are you challenged by doubts? And how do you squash them?
