Hola from Mexico City! 🇲🇽🍷I'm here for a work exchange and loving it so far with amazing people, food and sights like these ✨⁣
⁣
To celebrate the oldest wine region in the Americas, I've put together a brief history of Mexican wine. Head to the link in my bio to learn more about...⁣
⁣
🍇 The complicated history with the Spanish conquistadors and wine imports⁣
🍇 Who saved Mexican wine from extinction⁣
🍇 What wine drinking looks like in Mexico today⁣
⁣
Here we're drinking a lovely blend of Grenache, Tempranillo and Syrah, served chilled overlooking the Monumento a la Revolución. Does it get much better? Cheers🍷

How do you feel about minimal intervention vinos? Are you keen for the cloudyness or no? 🍷☁⁣
⁣
This River Blend by Krinklewood pleasantly surprised us as we weren't expecting to see this type of wine on the list, despite them operating as a biodynamic vineyard 🌝⁣ (more on what that is and how it works later)
⁣
River blend is...⁣
🍇 Made from whole bunch Gewurtztraminer and Verdelho⁣
🍇 Fully fermented on skins⁣
🍇 Unfined and unfiltered⁣
⁣
Light and zesty 🍊 So. Damn. Drinkable. Are you yay or nay for natties?

Do you know why organic vineyards plant roses at the end of each row of vines? 🌹⁣
⁣
A key topic of debate in my stories today! I heard two reasons...⁣
🍇 So the birds attack the roses instead of the vines⁣
🍇 Because they are susceptible to insects, diseases and mildew and you can catch early signs of it in the roses so you can protect the vines⁣
⁣
They're kind of like a natural warning sign that looks pretty while potentially also acting as a distraction for the birds. How cool?!Organic growing and making gets more and more interesting the more I learn 🌱⁣

Ever been to a biodynamic vineyard? Hunter Valley's @krinklewood vineyard is certified organic AND biodynamic🍷🌱⁣
⁣
This vineyard...⁣
🍇 Farms biodynamically with the lunar cycle⁣
🍇 Plants roses at the end of each of their vines (points if you know why)⁣
🍇 Has a 17 strong wine list with an absolutely lush minimal intervention white blend of Verdelho and Gewurtztramimer which was surpirisingly dry⁣
⁣
Bonus 🍇 for the resident peacock that welcomed us.⁣
⁣
Family owned, championing organic growing and wine making for 20 years with friendly and knowledgable staff. Head to Krinklewood to learn more about this way of wining. Cheers! 🥂

Do you drink cask wine? Discuss🍷 I've tried the white and orange at the Dolphin before so went for the red, Carussin 'Terzini' Barbera, 2017 at lunch today💃 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Kiiiiind of outraged when I googled it to see it was a cask wine after using box wine as a doorstop in my uni days (no amount of poorness could make us drink that) and learning cask wine in Australia is aka goon and hearing various 'legends' like if you mix two types of goon you go BLIND. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But OK look, this wine is...⁣⁣
🍇 Biodynamic Barbera from Piemonte in Italy⁣⁣
🍇 Aiming to change perception of cask wine while delivering well farmed wine direct from producers at low costs⁣⁣
🍇 A little dry for me as Barbera typically is dry but actually a great wine at a good price that paired pretty well with my pepperoni covered pizza⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So should we be against cask wine or changing our attitudes, like so many people are when it comes to organic and natural wine? Personally preferring wine out of a bottle but had to set myself straight and think a little differently after this one 🍾 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Let me know your thoughts winos! ❤
